I am separating

The monthly contribution you make includes a 1.5% payment for an Adult Survivor's pension on your death.

If, as a result of separating from your spouse or partner, you want to stop making the additional payment, you can do so for the future by filling out the Adult Survivor's pension opt out form or by writing to us, giving at least one calendar months' notice. We cannot refund the 1.5% additional contribution for the Adult Survivor's pension for any previous period.

If you start paying for Adult Survivor's pension cover and then stop, you can only re-start once and restarting will require you to pass a medical examination. If you have a spouse or partner in the future you cannot go back and pay for cover for the period you haven't paid.

Any change can only be made on the first of the month, for future service only and you need to give us one calendar month's written notice.

What happens to my pension if I divorce?

Go to the Handbooks and leaflets page for leaflets explaining what happens to your pension if you divorce. Remember that you may also want to update your Notice of Wish.
